Queer Activist Themed Play from Fringe Festival Takes the Stage at GLBT Center in Central Florida
as a Fundraiser for The Center
CHAINED TO FREEDOM is a one-act play that explores the current queer rights activist movement. Premiering at the Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival and having just completed a two-weekend run at Breakthrough Theatre of Winter Park, this 45-minute play inspired audience members to join in this fight concurrently paying tribute to Central Florida's contributions to the current growing movement.
Alan L. Bounville, playwright and actor of CHAINED TO FREEDOM is a queer rights activist and graduate student at New York University. Bounville's theatrical work explores the intersections between theatre and social change. As an activist, Bounville co-founded the activist group, Queer Rising in New York City. Since its inception, Queer Rising has engaged in dozens of direct actions ranging from low-risk actions all the way to high-risk civil disobedience resulting in multiple arrests.
